    Perhaps he should beg more. Grovel to his knees and plead Verity for mercy.

    But! Verity didn’t want to hurt him. It wanted friendship, equality. Something to treasure and mend, break and put back together again. Slide into his skin and feel his ribs crack, touch his heart and feel it pulsate with adoration. If only he could.
