Summary
Nicoló di Genova arrived with relative fanfare. He was an oddity only in that he had come for marriage instead of trade.
He wore a soft veil over his head which clashed with the utilitarian trousers and wide-sleeved doublet made of thick fabric which Yusuf knew must have been sweltering in the heat of the desert, even with the cooling wind off the ocean.
He came unaccompanied by his parents, instead only his elder brother stood beside him and left before the feast had grown cold. Just like the frigid Roman wife before him, Yusuf's husband did not dance, picked sparingly at his food, and spoke only to the maids at his side in some regional dialect of Genoa Yusuf knew little of.
