Summary
Senescence is the term given to the condition of leaves going through deterioration. The end of the leaf’s life cycle, when it starts to turn yellow, wilt, and inevitably fall off.
Every autumn, when the leaves start to senesce, Isaac braces himself. For the shift in the farming seasons, the uptick in his father's drinking as memories resurface.
Things have only been as bearable as they have been since Scott’s gravitated into his orbit one summer a decade ago and continued to be one of the better presences in Isaac's life.
