    Summary

"Would you wanna make a wager on it? See who can do whose style better?" Gyro asks, suddenly squatting down to crouch beside the smaller man, his fingers still hooked suggestively into his belt beside his ridiculous belt buckle. He's much closer to Johnny like this, close enough to see the younger man's pupils stretch and waver with surprise as his space is so casually invaded.

"A wager, huh?" He asks suspiciously, purposefully resisting the impulse to lean back at all as Gyro leans forward. The electricity he's felt between them off and on for weeks-- maybe months-- tickles at him again as the Italian grins at him from a close proximity, his gaudy grills and carefully poised body well within touching distance. "What exactly would we be bettin'?"

    Summary

Now that he's looking for it, Yuuji can feel it: the words are etched into him, woven into his muscles and carved into his bones. Start by saving me, Itadori. Yuuji promised he would, so now he must.

The burning pain is starting to come back again. It begins in his chest this time, slightly to the right. Yuuji swallows, reaching up to press his hand against it.

So, he thinks dazedly, as the universe begins to take him apart. This is what happens when you break a Binding Vow.

    -

Megumi dies in Shinjuku. Yuuji is thrown back in time to save him. Again, and again, and again.

(Or: Yuuji says “I’ll save you, Fushiguro” and the universe says “bet.”)

    Bookmarker's Notes

Genuinely the best thing I've ever read, ever. Beautiful, immersive writing, which gives such a great experience. Time loop has forever been my favourite trope/tag, and was executed brilliantly here, with the root cause being not only perfect for angsty fanfiction, but also completely canon compliant. The exploration of binding vows was such a nice addition, since I feel like the original media just throws the concept around without truly elaborating.
Being able to experience the relationships between characters and exactly what makes them who they are to each other was really fun, and the characterisation was at no point lacking. I find especially perfect (excluding itafushi) the relationship between Gojo and Yuuji. Yuuji, who had him as his loving teacher, and how he finds him in each timeline and they get along just as well. Especially with, the uneasiness Yuuji feels around Gojo, showing the contrast between people who know Gojo as the guy he is, and those who fear him as the strongest sorcerer. Their relationship was really good each time Gojo had to go fight Sukuna, and is again canon compliant, with Yuuji first getting into this mess and struggling to escape it because he wants to save people.
With Megumi and Yuuji, I think their relationship and interactions were all flawless, and watching the way they were together could not but make one emotional. Yuuji bearing the scars of each of his failures was great symbolism, and also helped to bring the story forward.

Read this all in one sitting, words cannot express the impact it has had on me, I'm never going to find any literature that struck more in me than this.
