"Hi, solnyshko.”
The Russian pet name set a firework off inside Shane's mind as he heard it cooed from behind him. The intonation was just as he remembered, but the voice was much deeper. He turned and felt himself short circuit. It took every ounce of willpower to not let his jaw drop cartoonishly to the floor. Shane would recognize his individual features anywhere, even after 5 years. But it was as if someone had snapped their fingers and the smug, silly Russian boy who had been attached to Shane's hip for 3 summers was transformed into some sort of fucking Adonis right before his eyes.
“Ilya-” was all Shane managed before strong arms were wrapped around his waist and lifting him off the ground in a greeting all too familiar from years ago.
OR
When Shane Hollander & Ilya Rozanov spent their summers as teens in an elite hockey camp, they quickly became inseparable friends. But they lose touch when Shane moves on as a prospect for the NHL and Ilya for the KHL.Years later, Montreal makes a bold move to take the hottest player in the KHL. Summary
“We could…be friends, maybe.” Shane’s voice was small, hesitant on almost every sound.
“Wha–” Ilya’s reply was less of a word and more of a stupid, confused noise like he’d been punched. That probably would’ve caught him less off guard than what Shane actually said.
“Y’know, text about the hockey gossip? You call, I answer? Friends.”
Something terrifyingly bright exploded into Ilya’s chest. Something dangerous, that felt like maybe it could keep him warm through the summer in Russia, through the chill that permeated his childhood home no matter how warm it was outside.
“And also we like to suck each other’s dicks,” he quipped, trying to deflect.
“Fuck off, Rozanov.”
---
Drunk and young and stupid, Shane and Ilya choose to be honest - just a little bit. To lean into each other, instead of apart. What happens if they choose to be a little bit brave on a Vegas rooftop in 2010, and keep choosing it?

"Well you obviously needed it. Not bad for a first timer. You’re welcome.
There were so many things Ilya could say to make sure that Hollander understood that this was nothing but casual fuck that would not be repeated because... Well, because.
It would be so easy to lie."
1989 is a year that will change the lives of two young hockey players in a way they can't even imagine
Ice hockey is Ilya's greatest love and his ticket to freedom. But to make his dreams come true, he has to be brave enough to leave behind everything he knows and start a new life in a foreign land.
Shane is the golden boy of the league, and after two fantastic seasons everything seems to be going his way. But then the Montreal Metros acquire a new player in a most unusual way, and after that nothing is the same.
