Summary
Viktor dropped his head onto his crossed arms as his record player spun out the first few wonky bars of Planet Telex. The dyaxaphram had so far been a failure, the shimmer cells had almost seemed to curdle somehow when he bullied the slide into place under his microscope's lens.
Viktor rolled his head to the side and watched the city lights bathe the four small walls of his apartment in ghost-green, purple and yellow hues. Thom Yorke floats through the air, telling us that everything is broken.
Or: Viktor is Silcos main shimmer-maker, selling it on the side behind the MTA's newly glossed transit front. Jayce is a tech student thrust into the law position his father abandoned to him, struggling to keep himself afloat as the legal case of one of his closest friend is on his hands.

After the council decide to destroy all of Jayce's research and ban him from studying at the academy, Jayce decides to drown his sorrows in booze and moves towards the ledge.

Viktor, local priest and head of the church, finds Jayce on the ledge that night, and decides to take him under his wing. Jayce accepts, and the two grow ever closer. However, when Viktor's past catches up with him, and intertwines itself with Jayce's own, the two of them must face the shadows of their past together, whether they want to or not.

Jayce crouches down to his level, reaching instinctively for the jagged skin before stopping short.
“You—” he can barely process the idea of it, let alone the reality. “You punched him.”
“Yes.” Viktor flexes his hand. “He deserved it.”
Jayce snorts, helpless. “You’ve got a mean right hook. Since when?”
"Since Zaun."
Or: Jayce is fragile, and Viktor is astute; he is also alarmingly good at breaking noses in defense of his new academic associate.
