His fixation with his hair replaces a lot of self-sabotage that he typically defaults to, but it all goes downhill as Dennis struggles to hide how into it he is when Robby pets him.

There was an unexpected beat of silence from Whitaker, who he hadn’t noticed had turned almost completely to face him, both of his thighs on either side of Robby’s knee, leaning his chin on his palm.
“I’m not that young.”
Robby shot him a questioning look.
“C’mon, don’t kiss up to me off the clock. I’m old enough to be your dad.”At that, Dennis seemed to think, his eyes considering Robby for a second before landing on his finished drink, humming in agreement.
