    Sometimes, Aaron wants to punch John. Wants to punch anyone, anything, but John is the closest thing. The old life is bad, but the new life is like a skin that doesn’t quite fit. Like he has to bend to fit into a mould that should be comfortable. The mould isn’t the problem; Aaron is.

He could take them anywhere. He could keep driving, the hum of the engine their only companion. Robert would wake up, and they’d be someplace nice, somewhere with a beach or a rocky coastline.

    It's Seb's eighth birthday, and Aaron can't help but think about what happened to him at that age. With a sleeping Robert in the passenger seat, he could take them anywhere. But Robert isn't his, not anymore, and Aaron is hurting.
