Heavy steps thud down creaky stairs. A part of you that will be six years old until you die tenses up like a rat realizing it’s been caught in a glue trap, struggling and screaming for you to run away, run away, even though you know how pointless doing that would be.
The rest of you, that’s in your thirties and not fucking stupid, firmly ignores it. It’s just Kit, trodding on tired feet into the kitchen while their jaw cracks in an unattractive yawn they quickly cover once they realize they’re not alone in here.

“Imogen?” Comes a distant call, and you perk up, glancing down the long, warm corridor ahead of you. “Is that you?”
“It’s me!” You confirm, and then a head of golden hair pokes out at the far end of the tunnel. Hannah grins, and you return their smile. You haven’t been able to visit the ruins in quite some time, and you’re dearly excited to see how far the restoration efforts have progressed.

Fawn warbles a surprised laugh at Silvya’s question, and Kit coughs, peeking over their book to stare at their best friend. Silvya herself is lounging so far back on her chair it’s almost dangerous, lean hands clasped behind her head, half-lidded eyes fixed idly on the ceiling. She rocks back and forth on two thin wooden legs, her ankles crossed lazily up on the arm of the couch. Her socked feet hang near Kit’s face, who leans pointedly, disgruntledly away. They’ve long since given up on trying to push her away, but are still too stubborn to give up the comfiest corner of the couch.
