Summary
After the last near "tragedy" (or so the dwarves are calling it, Bilbo's about done with them), Bilbo doesn't cut his hair and instead lets it go long. Except now, now he's almost home, his dwarves insisting on escorting him back, and he's got long hair he doesn't know what to do with.
When Thorin offers to braid his hair, Bilbo reluctantly agrees, if just to have something to remember the dwarf by.
Except it doesn't do Thorin any favors. Bilbo was already attractive enough, and now there are braids. In his hair.
And if Fili and Kili don't stop snickering, Thorin's content to return to Erebor without his heirs.

Bilbo works the soup kitchen in town alongside Bofur. There's always the regulars - Bard who's fighting to find a job, Tauriel the runaway, Saruman who's always sour.
Then they get a newcomer. And even with the hint of a troubled, mysterious past, Bilbo's determined to get beneath the shaggy hair and to the soul hidden in those bright blue eyes.

And then the cat takes up all of Bilbo's time, and Thorin finds out that yes, it can get worse, and yes, he's jealous of a cat.
Or: The one where Thorin can't get the right words to come out, the cat hates him, and Bilbo is unaware he's being pined after.

By a curse or a blessing from the Valar, Bilbo finds himself repeating the same horrific day of war outside of Erebor again and again. His repeats are always triggered when someone from the company falls. He suffers days and days on his own before the others begin to repeat the day with him.
One would think that with the whole company, an elf king, and a bowman all knowing what was to come, Bilbo would have an easier time getting them all through the day alive.
One would think that, wouldn't they.
