Summary
Wen Yuan was grateful for his life. Really, he was.
What was left of his family was safe and they had protection from those that had nearly wiped out the whole Wen line. It's just, sometimes, he wished he had more, but he knew his place in the world. And he was grateful for his life.
And the hermit hidden in the forest outside their village was friendly and willingly taught him all that had been denied to him due to his name.
And for that, he was even more grateful.I started this ages ago, and finally gave up on finishing it, so here's what I had written.

Summary
Nobody said traveling through time would be easy — nothing Wen Kexing has done has ever been easy — but A-Xu was dying. He was going to die.
If Wen Kexing could not save his A-Xu in the life they shared together, he would save him elsewhere in the past. And then some other version of them could live on, while this A-Xu and this Wen Kexing would stop existing. Would become something that never existed at all. If Wen Kexing did this right, he would die one day after — and some twenty years earlier than — his husband.
Only, A-Xu died and Wen Kexing didn't stop existing.
