Summary
“Why did you insist on waiting this long?!”
“I want to watch the sun rise.” Ben muttered, “It reminds me that even as the dark sets in, the light will come back around eventually. It always does. It has become hard to remember that recently.”
The answer left Jaster speechless.
Ben sounded wounded– hurt in a way which would not heal with time alone. He looked like a tired Verd, a battle-weary warrior. Jaster had seen the look before. Many Verde wore it. The glint of deeply rooted pain sparked in Ben’s eyes too.
Instead of asking more, Jaster turned his head to watch the sunrise along with Ben.
It was peaceful.
The dawn of a new day.

Summary
The witching hour belongs to the dead.
The town of Amity is dying. The rot has set in deep—splintering through the bones of houses left to collapse, twisting through the blackened roots of abandoned fields. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and rust, with the weight of things long buried. The church bells ring at midnight, though no one dares pull the rope. The weathervanes creak, the rocking chairs sway on empty porches, and the wind carries whispers of a past that refuses to stay dead.and Laid out on the church steps like an offering—pale, drained, lips stitched shut. A rosary strangled between stiff fingers. The priest calls it the devil’s work. The town whispers of a curse.
The killings come like clockwork. Each victim is left like a saint, posed in mock prayer, their mouths filled with wax. The church sways on its foundation, its sermons heavy with fire and brimstone, warning of evil, of punishment, of women who meddle with things best left buried.
Samantha Manson swore she would never return. But when her name (and family) is mentioned, she has to come back
The house is waiting. The town is watching.
And something else is waiting, too. All she knows is- she is not alone.

Summary
Jaskier is finally free. After so long trapped in a form not his own he had begun to doubt which was his true self. But here he is, unshackled. The betrayals, violence, abandonment- the destruction his family wrought upon themselves and others, all of it left far behind. Jaskier is determined to enjoy this second chance. To bask in the beauty of life and ignore what horrors linger. Then he meets Geralt and things become complicated.

“They don’t exist.”
“Pardon?” The bard’s brown hair flops as he tilts his head.
Geralt bravely doesn’t sigh again. “The monsters in your songs. They don’t exist.”
For some reason that gets him a grin, “How do you know?”
Geralt stares at him.
“I’m a Witcher.”
The bard laughs, “So just because you’ve never seen them that means they don’t exist?”
“Yes.” Geralt says flatly.
“Agree to disagree.” The man says flippantly, “But I would love to hear more about the monsters you’ve fought.”
“No.” Geralt takes a drink desperately and finds he is almost at the bottom of his tankard. He contemplates whether it’s worth the coin for another. Probably not.

Summary
"If life could give me one blessing, it would be to take you off my hands!"
A long, pregnant pause lingers between them, wherein a small eternity passes before him in a handful of seconds. There's a wrench in his chest, where his heart should be, shattering to pieces. He might choke on it, the blood he knows should be slicking his throat and suffocating him. All very poetic, he decides, and fitting, for the end. Geralt is still looking at him, snarling, tension rolling off him in waves, teetering there on the edge of the cliff, and he makes his decision.
"Have it your way, then, Geralt."
Yellow eyes, furious and, if he should let himself indulge, afraid, are the last thing he sees as he takes a step back towards the edge and then he's falling, falling, and there is nothing but blue sky and fog and the edges of the mountains rising to meet him.
(Or: Jaskier makes a different decision, that day on the mountain. It all just sort of goes to shit from there, really.)
