“We’re not going out at all,” Donna grumbles, but even she’s getting tired. Dick suspects the man drugged both her and Garth at one point, and now that the adrenaline has worn off, they can feel it.
“You can say that again,” Roy mutters. Roy’s sense of humor is dark at the best of times, but even Dick can hear the weary resignation now. He’ll be damned if anyone is wearily resigned to death but himself.
“Wait a second,” Dick stops them again. He takes a deep breath. He shoves the sound of his parents’ bodies breaking on the ground like twigs, Jason’s cries, his team’s anguished protests, to the back of his mind. He closes his eyes. He breathes in and out. He tries to find a central point to focus on.
Impossibly, he wants Bruce.
OR
Dick Grayson is pushed to the brink, but he finds that he can't fall off unless he has a safety net, even if he constantly fights with said safety net, who is a drama queen and dresses all in black and storms into the medbay like he's on a warpath. Hugs ensue.

He was tired earlier. He was tired now. He’d be tired later. It would have been entirely unbearable if he wasn’t quite so used to bearing it.
So, when he stumbled into the office tired, it was expected. And when he stumbled into the Manor tired, no one batted an eye. Falling asleep on the couch in the common room was typical. Six shots of espresso were the usual.
It’s unsustainable, the routine of a madman, but it had to be done. Who else was going to do it? So, he went to board meetings and shmoozed at galas and he patrolled on schedule. It could have been better, but it wasn’t. And it could have been worse, but it wasn’t. It just was.

Summary
It was nice, acceptance. Jason wasn’t looking for forgiveness because he knew Dick never blamed him to begin with. He wasn’t looking to be absolved, he was searching for acknowledgement. He wanted Dick to know that he recognized the fault in his actions, that he wanted to do better, that he knew Dick deserved better.
And that was that. The matter was settled. But Dick’s mind was somewhere else the whole night. Jason could tell. Earlier he almost put the leftovers in the trash and the to-go box in the fridge. And before that he tried to turn the TV on with a hairbrush.
So, with his worries abated, and his regrets voiced, Jason turned the conversation around. “Where’s your mind been at, Dickie?”
“Off picking wildflowers.”

Summary
Normally Dick would be happy to listen to Tim talk. In fact, Dick thought it was one of his favorite sounds in the world. Tim rarely allowed himself to be excited about things. Hearing him speak so freely and openly to Bruce and him about his plans was refreshing. Dick only wished it wouldn’t be at the cost of his life.
Batman hadn't always been so strict about talking unnecessarily over comms. When it was just two of them it hadn't mattered, their walkie talkie system had always worked. But now that Nightwing and Robin were in Gotham, it seems insane that they never realized: if only one person can talk over the radio at a time... how could they call for help?

Bruce could have sworn his spirit had left him momentarily. The sudden hollowness that filled him couldn’t be explained in any other way.
“Your dad must have his hands full with you.” Elizabeth Ribbons leaned forward and patted Dick’s shoulder, as he reached for yet another slice of cheesecake from a passing waiter’s tray.
Bruce fixed his eyes on the ice sculpture that hid him from view. It suddenly seemed like the most interesting design in the world. The soft lines of the ice on the otherwise insignificant over sized swan seemed like a lead shield... Because Dick would read it easily in his expression. He wanted to be Dick’s dad. But he wasn’t.

“Golden Boy can’t do something perfectly. Must be gut-wrenching,” Jason mocked. Dick hadn’t said anything wrong, really, but Jason was in the mood to bicker. His brother didn’t bite back with the usual venom, though.
He turned toward Jason, setting the sealed vial in his left hand and Sharpie in his right down on the table. “Look, I don’t -” Dick sighed, running his now empty left hand through his hair, flexing and relaxing his fingers at the crown of his head before shaking it out.
His hair was boarding on shaggy compared to his usual mop, like he missed his last haircut appointment by three or four months. His shoulders, previously a bit tense with the concentration needed to perform a difficult task, were now taut with what Jason could - with questionable accuracy - identify as stress and discomfort. “I can’t figure out why you think that.”
