The Battle of the Gullet has been called many things by later hands: the Breaking of the Triarchy, the Burning of the Velaryon Fleet, the Red Tide, and, by those singers more fond of grief than truth, the Doom That Never Came. The Doom of Valyria, once avoided by the Targaryens taking shelter in Dragonstone, spared no dragon nor rider, nor countless families in the Freehold. It was only Lord Aenar Targaryen, called The Heedful, who listened to his daughter, Daenys the Dreamer, after she dreamed catastrophe once she bonded with Balerion, then a hatchling. It was said Balerion reached for the Prince of Dragonstone that day, yet both heir and dragon slipped its grasp.

“Oh Balerion! What could have been, if only I knew back then!?”
On the night King Viserys the Peaceful takes the hand of the Stranger, gives his last breath to Balerion, and joins the Great Hearth, the Queen that Never Was dreams in a fitful slumber.
Receiving flickers of the future, she wakes and resolves to do what is right to save her House and the future. Thus, the dance plays in a different key as Rhaenys takes a more active role guiding Queen Rhaenyra and the Blacks.
Despite these dreams, Rhaenys has the odds stacked against her. Not all dreams are believed. Nor have the dreams come at an optimal time. What can the Lady of Driftmark do when most of Westeros has been against her and the other women of House Targaryen since Aegon’s conquest? What can she do, for her cousin is dead, and the seeds have been sown for a realm-changing war?
All that Rhaenys can do is follow the warnings the Fourteen Flames have burdened her and guide her descendants, just like her ancestors did fleeing the Doom of Valyria.
Designed in two parts, with fourteen chapters each. There are also outtakes and a companion fic planned, TBD.
