Summary
A strange creature from a distant land washes up on the coastline far from Redwall, rescued by a local tribe of otters. Unknown to them or the Badger Lady they take him to, he is neither vermin nor goodbeast; he is the first envoy of something much more dangerous.
Tarkhan is a mongoose, an animal native to the lands of the Far South and completely foreign to Mossflower. Stranded in a faraway land, Tarkhan must use his guile to try to find a way home while hiding his own past and opinions in order to avoid suspicion from his hosts.

Summary
Souls are not immutable. They are fundamentally mutable even. They are the seed that blooms to become us. And when we pass, our souls flow through the Lethe and are wiped of everything to prepare them for new life. Though, perhaps because they are so mutable, just a wash in the river of forgetfulness isn’t always enough to remove all of the detritus of the self.
Sometimes things will remain. Perhaps a preference for a certain kind of partner, a speech quirk, or rarely even whole memories and, if one is particularly unlucky, they might even end up with most of an unwilling passenger. When that kind of thing sticks… Instead of washing off after the next stop on the soul's journey the soul itself has a defense for this. It's very much like how oysters will form a nacre around particulates of sand to protect their insides. The soul will incorporate those memories or ticks or preferences into itself in a way that isn’t to be washed away by the river.
In other words: The Echo Crew are reincarnations of The Smoke Room cast
