Hannibal chuckled, taking a languid drink from his glass.
With the motion of Hannibal’s drink, Will became still, staring up at his host.
“Is this champagne?”
Hannibal provided no immediate response, swiveling the glass between his forefinger and thumb. Champagne sloshed inside of the flute.
“Dom Pérignon Plénitude Rosé,” Will's nose scrunched for a brief moment at the name, his hand tightening around the delicate stem.
“I believe that you deserve this, Will. You have overcome your attachment, and I am not one to deny or purvey your decisions. It is entirely yours.”
Silence transpired between them as Will watched the champagne glitter inside of its glass confine, its perfect surface tension breaking with the slightest movement. Will’s mouth began to fill with saliva as his eyes followed the bubbles of carbonation to the top of the flute.
“I can’t,” Will’s voice was heavy and hoarse as he firmly set the glass down, his hands shaking as they landed near the edge of the table.-

Will tells himself it don’t matter that he’s got company for this job, tells himself he don’t mind having the kid around, even if it does feel off. He knows he can’t afford to be picky—not in this kind of work, where jobs are hard enough to come by. And maybe if the boy’s just gonna keep ignoring him, they won’t have to cross paths all that much. He’s fine with that. Easier to keep his head down, get through the summer without any trouble. They won’t see each other.
