His body spasms erratically, hot needles pricking his scalp, mind almost going blank from sensory overload. All Saihara can think is that this can’t be it, this can’t be how he dies—not in the goddamn epilogue—epilogue?—not after ending the killing game—not after everything—

    There is the distant sensation of falling—nauseous vertigo, a hopeless fear.

    “Danganronpa is the latest and greatest in Killing Game Entertainment! As they are the pioneers of their craft, they try to incorporate bigger and better gimmicks into each season. With the fiftieth season and beyond came the ‘implementation’ feature! As Danganronpa moved to virtual reality to host their seasons, it became possible to program not just avatars for our Players, but false memories, talents, and personalities as well! All of this has allowed the characters to come to life before the audience’s very eyes!

    “See, there’s a special little agreement that one must sign before the game that’s part of the audition contract! It gives the Player the option to keep all of the artificial junk that Team Danganronpa stuffs into their head under the condition that they win! It’s an optional prize, but who wouldn’t want to keep their very own—very special—Super High School Level talent!?”

    Summary

    Shuichi and his friends ended Danganronpa, or so they thought. The survivors of V3 step out of the confines of the school after Kibo destroyed it, but as they do, it all disappears, fading into nothing.

    Shuichi wakes up in the real world, realising the whole thing was a simulation. Every Danganronpa Killing Game was a simulation. His original self has been written over by his in-game character. He cannot even remember his name. He is Shuichi Saihara, Ultimate Detective. Whoever he was before, the boy who entered this nightmare willingly, was long dead.

    The Danganronpa characters are considered celebrities in the real world, some revelling in their fame, others traumatised by the experience.

    Shuichi tries to come to terms with the reality that Danganronpa is still ongoing, that everything they did was for nothing and the next Killing Game is being written.

    Danganronpa… lives on….
