The softly chiming alarm continued its gentle song. Easy to ignore if he wanted to. Easy to turn away and forget.
But he sat with his eyes fixed to the flashing blue light. Chest a riot of emotion and worry.
He reached over and depressed the button and the chiming stopped.
"Yeah, all right…" he sighed heavily as a hundred different scenarios ran through his mind.

It had started with the pedicure kit. Some time on the sixth floor, I couldn’t remember exactly when. The days blended, sometimes, especially with no longer getting a full night of sleep to break up the time. I’d been going through the daily routine, mind occupied with other things, when I felt something touching my feet. The touches were light, almost ticklish, like a feather was tracing patterns onto my skin.

Summary
The dungeon's over, and the AI assumes his help rebuilding Earth will bring him and Carl closer. But, to his dismay, Carl still blames him for all the suffering the dungeon caused. It doesn't matter what the AI does, he can't seem to get Carl to see him as anything other than an enemy.
In desperation he hatches a plan, something he thinks Carl won't be able to ignore. However, like everything else he's tried, it spectacularly backfires. Instead of Carl learning more about who the AI is, the AI learns more about what it means to be human than he ever wanted to know.- Language:
