His life changed since that day. After the change, he had to try to adjust to it, something that made him feel like he didn't belong at his house. Until, finally, he slowly came to accept the change and perhaps ultimately rejected it if that were taken away from him.[AKA What if Shadow suddenly befriended with Tails, and that makes Sonic terribly pissed, like his brother got snatched from him.]

A drive? Sonic really shouldn’t, he should go home, this wasn’t right, it wasn’t fair to either of them. Intense feelings filled Sonic’s chest, he wanted nothing more than to follow Shadow wherever he led him. Shadow was here, in front of him, asking Sonic if he wanted to come with him.
Only a fool would say no.
“Where do you wanna take me?”
“Where do you want to go?”
“It’s Valentine’s day, take me somewhere romantic.”

Summary
Sonic would only need to hibernate for three months.
That’s what he had to keep reminding himself as Sonic went kicking into hibernation. His only other comfort, besides a cozy burrow hidden away from the prying world, was the favor he’d asked of his long-time rival, Shadow. With hybrid genetics and Chaos in his veins, Shadow wouldn’t need to bed down for the winter storm of the century.
Just three months without the blue hedgehog. That was it.
Shadow only managed two weeks before he went to check on him.
