“These incidents are connected,” Miles tells the SIU Director, in the earliest meeting with the man he can get. “They have to be. Someone is causing them, and leaving these marks behind, and, somehow, they’re getting away with it.” He straightens as much as he can, hands curling into fists. “Those that are guilty cannot be allowed to walk free. I will not let that stand.”
The Director regards him impassively, hands steepled together in front of his face.
“An interesting observation, Mr. Edgeworth,” he says, eventually. He lets out an exhale, then pushes himself up in his chair. “Though quite a lot for only one person to handle on their own, surely.” He cocks his head, and offers Miles the barest hint of a smile, eyes sharp. “Why don’t we pair you with someone that can help split the work?”
He, as Miles already suspects, is not talking about Detective Gumshoe.

The first thought Miles has is that Phoenix looks neither as weak nor as injured as Miles thought he would. Then again, Miles had been picturing a car accident (well, he'd been picturing a lot of things, actually, but the car accident scenario was what came to him first).
The second thought he has is that he's a goddamn idiot. Phoenix doesn't own a car.

"Behind a lightpole, almost flickering at the edges, was that cursed reflection he kept on seeing. But this time the reflection was given physical form, becoming more than just a trick of the light. It had almost seemed like the world in the proximity of that being had dimmed, turning exceptionally dull in contrast with the bright Sekai all around it.
Tsukasa could feel his breath get caught in his throat, his heart feeling like it was skipping one too many beats. He could only stare back at this mirror image of himself in fear, and almost awe– he couldn’t believe what was happening. The Sekai was already otherworldly as it was, but this was edging on uncanny horror."

Everyone has that part of them they wish to hide, the ugly part of yourself that doesn't deserve the light of day, and Tsukasa was no exception. But what happens when that part of him no longer wants to hide in the shadows.
