At the end of everything, there was a puppet master with no audience. They would perform endlessly to themselves, making up adventures and stories no one would ever hear. For there was no one around who could.
At the end of everything, there was a puppet with no master. Listlessly wandering the wasteland that used to be the universe, reminiscing of times long past and times long forgotten. For there was no one around to remember.
It would seem like fate, then, that the two would meet each other.

Summary
For Serial Designation J, it's lonely being only effective disassembly drone in her sector of Copper-9. N was already a walking synergistic liability, but V couldn't be more obviously stressed and maladaptively coping if she tried. When a botched disassembly leaves V a nightmare-riddled wreck, the squad's effectiveness hits its lowest point. With disassemblers like these, you'd swear the worker drones show more initiative!
Uzi Doorman is a cool, independent worker drone. After Doll abandoned her, she doesn't need anyone else — all she needs is to finish her railgun and blow the murder drones anyway. Of course, if that plan goes wrong she'll be helpless at their mercy — dead, in other words.
Because J is a loyal drone. Locate, shutdown, disassemble. A simple directive she'd never hesitate to carry out. Right?

Summary
Her eyebrows furrowed and she sat back up just enough to look her in the eye, “You’re lying.”
Ragatha looked away, bringing up a hand to run through her hair. Pomni wasn’t the best at reading people, but she’d picked up on this being one of the woman’s nervous tells. She was uncomfortable.
She knew that getting Ragatha to talk about her own feelings was like pulling teeth, but getting brushed off still made her feel as if rocks had carelessly been tossed into her stomach.

Summary
If there was a manual to the way the world worked, then life wouldn't be so difficult. It would be called the Life's Survival Guide. It would have 9 volumes. If you can not find the answer anywhere then call the manufacturer, they'll tell you what to do. If they don't know, ship the item back or throw it in the trash. Either way they'll send you a replacement, a new manual, updated.
But life doesn't come with a manual. You have to figure it out yourself. And it's scary to think about, even scarier when you're going through it with someone else. Scariest when you lose that person. But let's not think about it. Instead we can pretend the manual is there, better yet we can make one, together.
Just you and me. How do you feel about that?

Summary
In a timeline where Wednesday doesn't bump into Rowan, she leaves the festival in Tyler's car as planned. What she didn't plan for, though, was that her fresh blood was needed for a resurrection ritual that wouldn't happen for several months. And so, instead of escaping the town via train, she is knocked unconscious and wakes up tied to a chair.
All in all, a much nicer reception than Nevermore gave her. And though she is loath to conform to her parents' designs on her life, she still recognizes the need for reciprocity that was burned into her skull as common manners (that brand was a wonderful 5th birthday present). It would only be right to show her kidnappers the same hostile hospitality.
Of course, her skills at kidnapping are much more refined.
