Wei Ying is lonely.

There's a mermaid bleeding in the lifeboat.
Wei Ying stands over the mermaid on the ship deck with his thumbs hooked into his own belt, coat swung back behind him. The mermaid looks at him like he’s a particularly pathetic bug, even though Wei Ying isn’t the one laying flat-out on the deck looking like a- well. A fish out of water, basically.
Wei Ying crouches in front of him and the mermaid bares his teeth, presumably to warn him off of touching or coming closer. Wei Ying holds his hands up, but frowns severely to establish dominance.
“Hey, buddy,” He says. “It’s not my fault you decided to bleed all over a lifeboat. We need those.”

Ichigo turned in his arms, long orange strands of her hair dragging over her face. Wordlessly, Aizen pushed it out and tucked it behind her ear, allowing Ichigo to finally see his face.
Aizen looked so young. The sharp, severe edges of Aizen's face had waned into something softer. Even the brown curls of his hair looked fluffier and more vibrant. His eyes were the same as she remembered though: brown and devoid of shine.
"Look." Aizen turned them upwards, a smile teasing at the edge of his lips. "The sky. It's the shade of your hair."
Ichigo and Sousuke are the only survivors of the Old World. In order to bring everyone back, Ichigo makes the choice to sacrifice her own happiness and spend her life as Sousuke's wife in the New World they created, ridden of war and prophecy. Who knows, maybe she'll find some happiness in such a world.

Summary
The East Blue was a destination no one would have expected them to choose. It was also the only place they could go to in order to be safe. The flimsy piece of paper leading Wani flickered in their palm, tugging onward, forward. As if trying to confirm the choice was the right one.
Blue would help. Blue had to help. Wani had to trust the bonds they had forged together in their youth had not sundered throughout the years, even if Wani had not been able to be there for either Blue or Red when Roger died. Even if Whitebeard had denied them any help he could have offered, chained Wani in the brig to make sure they would not go seeking Blue or Red out.
Wani had to hope Blue would believe them they had at least tried.
