It was over Petrakis's shoulder that Occtis caught sight of Julien across the ballroom.
He looked good. He always looked good, but tonight especially. He was in pleasant conversation with Lady Aranessa and a few lords from Timmony, his expression agreeable yet unreadable the way it always was at events like these.
Occtis wanted, for one foolish moment, for Julien to look over and notice him, to find some excuse to come pry him loose from Petrakis's attention. He knew that wasn't possible. They weren't supposed to know each other existed outside of the occasional forced pleasantry between their families, and wishing for it did nothing but distract him from the conversation still very much happening in front of him.
