The pop echoes throughout the small space, shaking the walls and the Earth beneath their feet, pulling a terrified scream out of young Abigail with its power.

Hannibal leaned forward and rested his forehead against Will’s. Their breath intermingled, twining together. Will wished they could just stay there, sharing space, for eternity. The parts of him that Hannibal was touching burned like the welcome sting of whiskey and filled his belly with a similar warmth. Will shifted closer, closer to escape the cold and biting air around them. In the back of his mind, Will knew that he was freezing, soaked, and needed to lie down soon or he’d pass out. But all he could feel was that deep, dark pull inside him to get even closer, closer until he could crawl inside Hannibal and nestle there, in the fertile shadow of raw truth and potential and home.
