    Summary

Lucifer is tired and depressed University professor, long beyond his past glory as he struggles to find reasons to live since his divorce shattered his heart eight years ago – only carrying on for the sake of his daughter Charlie and stepdaughter Vaggi.

Really, no one else manages to get past his general apathy and disinterest in life, except maybe his infuriatingly perfect colleague Alastor Hartfelt, who somehow always manages to annoy him beyond reason. The always impeccable Alastor, the brilliant Alastor, the magnificently handsome Alastor...

Yet beyond the surface, Alastor is struggling – working beyond reason to fill a debt from a deal made in his youth, he feels even more trapped day by day. Not to mention the mysterious accident that left him to walk with a cane, making his situation even more so precarious...

He manages to keep face, though, hiding his excruciating pain behind an everlasting smile... at least until he faints in front of Lucifer. Finally seeing beyond Alastor's armor, Lucifer makes it his mission to show his dear colleague a bit of sweetness... he doesn't know what he is stepping into.

After being freed from his deals, Alastor is starting to realize just how alone he is. To help him cope, he brings back a relic of his past to comfort him.

AKA: Al is lonely and brings back the childhood stuffie his Mama made him (Lucifer finds it and fluffy bonding ensues).

    Summary

Alastor does not believe in safety.

Safety implies trust. Implies permanence. Implies that something in Hell can exist without teeth bared behind its smile.

Preparedness, however, is simple. It is leather reinforced at the ribs. Structured stitching beneath a pressed shirt and a pristine coat. It is a waist drawn tight enough to remind the body that it is still contained.

Every morning, before the smile is set in place and the microphone cane is retrieved from its stand, he fastens the belt.

It is insurance, not decorative or indulgent or vane. His Sin is not Envy, nor is it Lust.

Hell is opportunistic. Slights fester. Power shifts. Blades are conversational punctuation.

He has learned — quite thoroughly — that comfort invites curiosity, and curiosity invites violence.

So he doesn't let himself relax and give in to comfort.

And eventually, those at the Hotel notice.

“Charlie?” Angel dust’s voice was barely a whisper. His entire body was trembling; his eyes were filled with terror, and his arms were holding him like his life depended on it. It propably did. “I think you need to have a talk with Alastor”

    Summary

    “You look like shit.”

A red gaze sweeps Lucifer from head to hoof and back again, followed by a well-sculpted eyebrow rising pointedly.

“Yes, yes,” Lucifer says from very much not the high ground. “Pot. Kettle. I’m aware. Why do you look like shit?”

Red places his free hand on his chest, fingers spread in gentlemanly offense. “I’m merely winded from all the effort I put into saving the Pentagram from your folly.”

Uh huh. No doubt Red’s a real hero. But first, a point of clarification. “My folly?”

“When you walked straight into the most obvious ambush of all time and were used as the unwitting power source for a doomsday device that nearly killed us all.” Black-tipped ears perk forward. “Ring any bells?”

Oh, fuck him. Also, no, not really. “Well, excuse me for underestimating what you sinners are capable of. None of you have ever managed to hurt me before in all the millennia you’ve tried. I’m not used to ambushes meaning anything.”

“Hence, folly.” Red tilts his head to the side at an inhuman angle, canned laughter swelling in the background. “You’re so good at it!”
