Summary
The war is over.

As rumors swirl and tempers flare between the Ambassador and the Fire Lord, Katara finds a helping hand, and unexpected solace, in the brother of one of her students. In a nation built on blood and lies, she must decide: how far is she willing to go to protect those who cannot protect themselves…and what will it cost her?
This is the first act of a five-act story. Act I is complete and comes to, what I consider to be, a narratively satisfying conclusion. I will be posting the remaining chapters of Act I every day during Zutara Month 2025.

Summary
In the scorching expanse of the merciless Si Wong Desert, two enemies find their fates unexpectedly intertwined. Prince Zuko, having finally abandoned his futile hunt for the Avatar and severed ties with his uncle, wanders the wasteland with nothing but regrets and his stolen ostrich horse. When he discovers Katara collapsed and dying in the sand, he makes a choice that defies everything he's been: he saves her.
Now bound by a lie, the exiled prince and the waterbender must travel together to Ba Sing Se, navigating a fragile alliance built on shared loss, desperate necessity, and the slim hope that doing one right thing might matter in a world defined by war.
