Jack Abbot thought his life was figured out, processing the death of his wife and following the police for the adrenaline spikes. He thought that was enough...until a certain blonde had to be saved under his hands (and now he can't stop thinking about her). For her part, Mel King had zero desire to be getting involved with anybody, much less a fifty-ish attending with dopamine issues. At least she hadn't until she was the one on the table.

Mel King is a bartender in a local pub when the Scottish Tartan Invasion arrives fresh out of Boston for the next round of matches and mayhem right here in Pittsburgh. Jack Abbot finds himself with a house guest from Scotland and med school. He strikes up a bet with his buddy and sets up a bar tab with a cute bartender; a tab and a bet that eventually turn into a casual friendship and then something more.
The slow burn, *vaguely* World Cup related crossover literally nobody asked for, and doesn't work within the structure of the WC at all. Two chapters, fully complete.

“We are lucky enough to be here to serve and to treat the soldiers of this wonderful nation”, said Dr. Abbot with a not so secretive dose of sarcasm. King had taken a few peeks across the formation and found a refreshing number of women in the crowd. All seemingly confident, with perfectly constructed slicked back buns and what seemed to be totally out of regs nail polish on a girl who had been speaking Tagalog earlier in the morning. That forced a smirk out of her as she thought of breaking some of the inconspicuous rules herself.
