Summary
It's been a year since Rocky and Dr. Grace saved their worlds from freezing over. Dr. Ryland Grace's new life in a little enclosure at Erid is all he could wish for on an another planet, he gets to finally quit eating Taumoeba for a change; he even gets to teach Eridian middle-schoolers too! Though it's probably worth considering these "children" are his age. He could go home anytime really, Eridian scientists have been ready for a long while, it's just that he doesn't want to. Basically, he wouldn't trade this life for anything else. His spacefaring-one-way-mission-make-first-contact-with-aliens times are long gone.
Unfortunately, Rocky barrels into the dome sounding the most excited he's ever been and Dr. Grace has known his best friend long enough to have a hunch on what he's so excited about.
"Smart science Eridians receive radio signal from space! Amaze Amaze Amaze!" Thank goodness he was wrong. It could just be another pulsar or something, hopefully.
"What did it say?"
"10 11 101 111 1011 ... 10 11 101 111 1011 ... 10 11 101 111 1011!"

Summary
Three years after the probes carrying Taumoeba and Dr. Ryland Grace's final message arrive on Earth, humanity launches an interstellar spaceship with a brand new mission. Thirty-six crew members (including two graduates of a certain San Franciscan junior high school) travel to the star 40-Eridani to make friendly contact with the Eridians and bring them the alien life form from Tau Ceti-E that can save their star if Dr. Grace's sacrifice failed.
Grace, now fifty-seven years old, is just trying to balance his life as a teacher while no longer being the only human on the planet anymore. It's a big adjustment, but Rocky and the Terra's Grace crew are going to make sure he's well taken care of.

Simon doesn't know why he asks. No, it's not okay. None of this is okay.
“Please,” he continues when Simon doesn't respond. “I-I need permission.”
Simon closes his eyes. It's his own type of silent defiance. If this man isn't just fucking with him – if he does, for some strange reason, feel bad or guilty about capturing him, then good. Let him drown in it.
Simon is captured by a compulsive liar who, bafflingly, gives him food, smiles at him, and pretends the Quiet Rapture never happened.
Grace saves the life of a violent human who seems to be under the terrifying delusion that every star and planet has disappeared without a trace.

Summary
I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

That made Grace pause. “What?!”
“If I die, you have to get my body out of here,” the man pleaded, but Grace had to go. His oxygen was out. The guy would be dead in six minutes. “You have to get me out, even if I’m dead. Hey!”
“Just hold on!” Grace propelled himself through zero gravity, away from the radio.
“Don’t leave me here-!” The roar echoed through the ship halls.
