Max didn’t believe in God, fuck God, no kind God would’ve done all these things to him, but he prayed the pup would make it out of him right. It doesn’t always go right. Babe’s get stuck; if a limb is bent a certain way, or if the babe tries to come out buttocks first.
It happened with the cows sometimes. The calf would get stuck and hang out of the mother for hours. The poor mother wouldn’t know what to do, getting horribly distressed as she stumbled around the fields, pushing with nothing happening. The calf hanging, sometimes still sealed in the amniotic sac, a squeezed head and limbs. Sometimes they would be dead when they hit the ground. Sometimes the mother died too.
