“Gege has been… feeling a lot of things today.” There’s no judgement in his voice, only love and the slightest tinge of concern. Xie Lian looks down at their clasped hands and nods. Hua Cheng seems to be weighing his next words carefully, opening his mouth then shutting it again a few times. Finally, he says, “Whatever Gege needs, this one will gladly do.”
Xie Lian’s mind immediately snaps to no, don’t, you shouldn’t have to, I don’t deserve to get what I want. He closes his eyes and lets himself breath through it. He ties himself to the feeling of his hands in Hua Cheng’s, smooth skin and the lightest scratch of calluses. He can tell Hua Cheng isn’t finished, but that he won’t continue talking until Xie Lian is ready for him.

Summary
That year he’d waited for Hua Cheng, some nights he laid down on his simple bed and let his hands wander alongside his mind. He recalled how Hua Cheng’s hands had moved over his body, while his own feared to do much beyond clutch Hua Cheng’s shoulders. He wondered what he might do when Hua Cheng returned, imagined the puff of ghost breath on his bare skin, the cold fingers of the Ghost King skating down his limbs, and he shook under the weight of his imaginings, and each day he was filled with fresh tides of longing.
And now Hua Cheng had returned, and he felt butterflies rise in his stomach to choke his throat.
