Summary
“You don’t remember me, do you?” He doesn’t sound shocked, resigned would be more accurate. Makoto shook his head. “Figures.” The boy scoffed, it was a sad sound. “They said you wouldn’t, but I’d hoped…” He shook his head. “You’ve always been the lucky one.” Makoto swallowed at the comment, his throat strangely dry.
“Were we close?” He asked, almost afraid to hear what the answer would be. The boy stared at him again, though this time his gaze wasn’t as intense.
“Something like that.” He shrugged, fiddling with the sleeve of his hoodie. It didn’t really match the rest of his outfit, but Makoto wasn’t exactly the best person to criticise someone’s fashion sense. “I think we were, at least.” Makoto nodded thoughtfully, a hesitant smile forming on his face.
“Then…what if we started over?” The boy’s eyes widened a fraction. His lips stretched into a smile that looked somewhere between pained and relieved.

She’s resting, body exhausted from working through the poison. Just hours ago, she had woken up from the medication-induced coma that she’d fallen into. Just hours ago, Makoto had run up to her, tears in his eyes and her blood still stained on his palm, and held her so tightly she’d had to step back to steady herself. He doesn’t think he’s ever cried that hard.
Now, tear ducts dry and head aching, he latches onto the knowledge that she is alive like it’s his own lifeline. As much hope as he has within himself, he’s unsure if he could live without his love.
