Because who couldn’t love a boy like him? Standing on the rickety metal staircase, his school uniform pristine against the grime of the building’s walls, like a drop of snow in the night. He melted slowly, standing as calmly as an unmovable stone, watching me climb up and stretch out my arms to catch a thread of his white button-down shirt. I never got close enough. The stairs became an endless volley of obstacles, my body slowing down with every step, a new flight added every time I finished one. He never once showed me his weaknesses. I was doomed with no escape.
