Summary
Regulus Black's life is not his own. He is controlled by the powers that be. His father's chosen path for him is unavoidable, unpreventable and regrettably irresistible if he wishes to keep his sanity. He has resigned himself to obey, abandoned all endeavours of academic achievement and believes that isolating himself is the only way to ensure his survival. 'Regulus places a soft kiss on James' nose, then one on his mouth. They relax back onto the blanket, giving the stars their full attention. Regulus points to Sirius and says "he's always been brighter than me".
James looks at Regulus and says carefully, “Y’know, stars don’t just hang up there forever. The brightest ones burn out the fastest. They explode. Somethin’ that brilliant can’t last forever.”
Regulus considers this and then says, a little mournfully, “Then I guess I’m the part that comes after. Just the death left behind.”
“No, Reg. You’re the brightness. The explosion. The moment the whole sky changes forever. I’m just lucky to be here to witness it".'

It is said in the days after Paul Atreides was stolen away from Caladan that Duke Leto Atreides and the Lady Jessica bewailed that the Emperor had ever requested those of the Landsraad, all of the Great Houses, Major and Minor, to attend him at Kaitain, for it was there that Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen first saw their son and connived to have him. The Harkonnen's plan bore fruit three years later, when, after celebrations for Paul Atreides's coming of age, the heir to the storied and honorable House was kidnapped and brought to Giedi Prime, whereupon the na-baron declared him his husband and mate.
