“The phone cord. God, I’m such a total moron, Annie, I just…” Grunting in frustration, Lynda threw her head down into her hands and stomped weightlessly over to the staircase. She kicked one of the wooden newel posts, and her leg just went right through it. She sat down on the top step, crossing her arms around her knees and burying her head in them. And she sniffled, cried a little, felt her fingers up and down the sides of her knees because she figured herself would be the only thing she’d really be able to feel again.//
Annie and Lynda learn to mourn themselves.

The girl’s eyes light up, and she grins, glances to the floor with her eyes. She nods. “Cool. I’m Courtney.” Her shag of hair sort of shakes around her face, illuminated by the yellow and red of the stage lights. She’s got a wide nose, and every tiny bump in the skin of her cheek looks so clear in the light Kat could be running her fingers over them. She blinks, and they look into each other’s eyes.
The band all starts up at once, and Jesus, it’s the sweetest sound she could have ever imagined. Some Wipers cover. Anywhere else, anytime else, it’d be the type of song to make them want to get off their asses and headbutt some punk. But here and now, it just sounds like the future.//
Two musicians meet in Portland. They go on to make a small part of the next decade.

“Open– open your legs, m’kay?” Annie whispered. Her voice had run so far ahead of her brain that she couldn’t find it anymore.
Lindsey nodded and did as she was told. As they opened, the thing in between glistened with excited sheen in the dim orange light. Annie’s thumb reached down tentatively, like a heron’s beak edging near the water, waiting for a fish to swim by underneath. It planted itself – her thumbprint was irrevocably etched into her little clit. Immediately the girl’s breath hitched. She felt like the world was falling out from under her. At just a touch, her heart was pounding like she'd just ran a marathon. She didn’t know this. This was new.
She was tingling. She knew that.

Annie ropes herself into finally going out with that 8-year-old, even if she knows she shouldn't. She learns that the devil on her shoulder will never not get the better of her.

Recording has always been the easy part.
On camera, Arin knows exactly who he is — loud, confident, quick with a joke. He knows how to make Dan laugh. He knows where they stand.

Another Derry, another time, same old Pennywise. Armed with friendship, faith, an encyclopaedic knowledge of Catholic heresy and a pitchfork one of them got out of the garden shed, the Derry girls do battle with a clown who really should have known better than to try this shit in Northern Ireland.
