Summary
Years of living on the run and hiding who he is have taught Shi Mei how to ignore all his base vampiric urges. He fakes his enjoyment of human food easily, even when it clumps and coalesces like wet ash in his throat. He can get by feeding himself only once a week, and he’ll settle for animal blood if there’s no human target he can drain without arousing suspicion. Shi Mei is gentle; Shi Mei is perfectly controlled; Shi Mei would never risk his survival over something as pointless as a tasty snack.
That’s not to say there’s no temptation, though.
