So maybe Dean’s a little impatient when he decides to burst into that diner (even though Cas told him no), and maybe he’s a little aggressive with his puffed up chest when he flings open the door (okay, yeah, the waitress definitely eyes him warily) and hell, maybe when he says, “Feel a little left out over there—scoot over,” he’s maybe a little too enthusiastic when he shoves into the booth next to Cas (and kind of sits in his lap), but whatever the hell he does, it definitely doesn’t give Sam the goddamn right to pull him aside with a glare and say, “Maybe you wanna be a little less alpha male right now, Dean, and focus on the case?”
The fuck—no one knows how to focus on a case better than Dean Winchester.
But yeah, maybe Dean can’t help but swallow a little nervously when Sam says that.
Because it gets to him.

When he lets himself think about it for more than five seconds, Dean can almost see Bobby's point: he's faced down demons, witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, angels, and Satan himself and now he's been defeated by the God damn Midwest.

Summary
It took Sam a while to notice it. Longer than he’d like to admit. But to be fair to himself, he had been watching for impulses of a more murder-the-world kind, not whatever was going on now.
It all really boils down to this: Dean styles his hair. Which Dean has always done, and Sam has always known. But the hair gel is no longer tucked away in the bottom of his duffel bag; it stays out in the open of the shared bathroom of the Bunker, and Dean doesn’t hide what he’s doing if Sam walks in.
“Heya Sammy,” Dean greets happily, running a hand through his hair.
“Hi,” he says back, nervously watching Dean’s actions.
He’s looking in the mirror, and it’s not until he stopped that Sam realizes Dean’s always flinched at his reflection.

Summary
16 months ago, Cas became human.
12 months ago, Cas left the bunker and a broken-hearted Dean behind.
Now they must work a case together, where married couples are dying mysterious deaths and the only way to earn the neighbors' trust is by pretending to be married. Slowly, Dean finds that he loves being in a relationship with Cas, fake or not, and Cas finds his loneliness retreating, despite the harsh reality looming right around the corner.
