Nicholas, though in excruciating pain, does not miss the way the buff guy's eyes roam up and down Yuma's body appreciatively as he bends over to grab his tote, but he can't even bring himself to roll his eyes. Or wipe the pained grimace off his face.

Anyone merciful would have spared Maki's heart, but Yuma had always been the selfish kind. If he were to drown, he wanted Maki to share his grave.
When Maki loses his memory while stranded on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean, Yuma is forced to trick him into believing that they're newlyweds on their honeymoon. Maki can't exactly know that they haven't been in each other's vicinity in a year. Nor that they kill people for a living.

Summary
It’s true that Euijoo learned Japanese off of almost nothing but animated films, elementary school practice handbooks, and the members, but Mandarin is different. Mandarin is quick, sharp, and precise. Nicholas speaks his native language like he dances—he holds that intensity in his fingers and carves it into refined accuracy, fluidly welding together sentences like he rolls his body under the glaring stage lights.
It’s different, Euijoo wants to tell him. Like our native languages. Like us.
