One week ago, Kris nearly destroyed the world. Seven days ago, they took a stupid, selfish shot in the dark, throwing away all the plans they had so meticulously prepared in favor of one last, desperate gamble. One hundred and sixty-eight hours ago, they finally sealed the shelter’s Dark Fountain for good—and miraculously, thanks only to their friends, nobody had to die.
But more importantly: sixteen hours ago, Susie, apparently, went out with Noelle for an ice cream date and neither of them told Kris about it beforehand.
By all accounts, that should be fine. That should be not a big deal, because Susie and Noelle are girlfriends, and girlfriends go on dates with each other. And, typically, girlfriends aren’t expected to invite regular friends to join in on those dates. Especially not friends who lied to both of them repeatedly and nearly ruined everything, everywhere, forever.
The cruel truth of the matter, though, is that Kris is extremely not fine.

Having been in a stable relationship since the festival, Susie and Noelle can’t imagine a future without the other… At the same time, seeing Kris again has prodded old wounds and fueled forgotten embers. As Susie and Noelle come face to face with their desires, they are also forced to accept the new life Kris has built without them. The journey to rekindling their relationship may prove more treacherous than originally thought…

Everything that was even vaguely personal, you donated, or buried, or burned. On Carol's advice, of course – any Darkner that was yours might spill your secrets once the prophesied Girl arrived, and give the game away – but it was proof of your commitment, too, not just practical. Proof you would do anything for Noelle, for the person you'd taken from her, for the life she was supposed to live. Because you could do it. You could give up anything. You could give up everything. You promised.

"So, how would you do it?"
Kris looks at Noelle. They've been chewing on the last of the popcorn, the kernels that get stuck at the bottom of the bag and only half pop.
"You know," Noelle says, and gestures at the screen like they haven't spent the last few minutes in silence, watching a tough-yet-caring police officer string together the world's most obvious clues. "If you were a slasher movie villain, how would you kill me?"
Kris and Noelle have a spirited discussion about horror movies.
