Pugsley had always thought that love was easy; As a child who grew up surrounded by the unabashed and overwhelming love of his parents, he thought it was as easy as rigging a car. A twist of a wire here, a pinch at the cogs, a spill of oil, and voila! Love rained from the sky amongst car parts and a sputtering engine. That's how love worked—that’s how love should work.
With a sigh, Pugsley saw himself out. The door slammed shut behind him and bumped the balls of his feet, making him flinch—not from the impact, but from the fact Eugene had kicked him out. He was a dog, after all, but he didn't think he was one that could be sent out of the house.
