When Lan Wangji is taken captive by the Wens during the burning of Cloud Recesses Wei Wuxian comes to rescue him and take care of him.

They’re on the edge of Wen sect territory when it happens; the bright flash of a talisman blinding the whole company, the guards reeling away, even Lan Wangji with his spiritual energy too weak to clear the afterimage from his eyes.
Suddenly someone is among them, some dancing whirling black shape, and Lan Wangji should be helping his rescuer (if that’s what this is), but he can’t see and he can’t fight so he falls to his knees to make himself as small of a target as possible.
He’s gotten used to kneeling, anyway.
He hopes but it can’t be, it can’t be, there’s no way it’s Wei Wuxian, and yet he strains to see more clearly, to catch a flash of red in that swirl of black, to hear that joking voice, that laughter.

He pulled the door open smoothly, leaving the noisemaker with their fist still raised mid-knock. He could glimpse white robes underneath a thick and practical-looking travel cloak, but surely no member of his sect would think to barge in upon him in such a way.
“Hello!” the interloper exclaimed, a bright smile coming into view as he lifted the sopping veils away to one side. “Would you happen to know how to reach the Cloud Recesses?”
Or, a teenage Wei Wuxian arrives at the Lan sect as a (mostly) respected disciple of the Immortal Baoshan Sanren instead of the well-known troublemaker of Yunmeng Jiang. Lan Wangji learns to come to terms with this (eventually).
