Summary
They said goodbye to Lavina and watched her until she was out of sight. The sun was almost gone from the sky, and it seemed they had the entire school for themselves now. Raye was thinking about how to convince Chief to let her borrow Clementine for the night to “discuss poetry” when, suddenly, she was pushed until her tailbone hit the edge of her desk.
Clementine was in front of her, their faces incredibly close, barely an inch of empty space between them. The novelist's fangs were even more visible now, and Raye couldn't help but look, wondering how it would feel when they sank into her neck.
Painful, of course. But Raven, for some reason, felt like her neck was itching for the feeling.

Summary
“Not today. Prove me wrong, Xu.” There is desperation, here, bleeding and weary, begging to be noticed. Du Ruo isn’t familiar with it; the feeling makes her chest cave in, her breathing short, her hope left in the town about to burn behind Xu.
(No matter how false, with enough faith, a story has no choice but to come true.)

Summary
Words won't do that justice at all. Any of it. Not to the fractured red halo around her head, the thorny links of the Shackles protruding out of her skin, nor for the spiderweb filaments of light that twine around her body and glow like luminescent veins beneath her flesh.
So she doesn't. Chief lets her mouth drift shut and then turns away. If there is nothing she can say then she simply won't. She picks up the pace.

Summary
In NF. 106, Sunset Town disappeared in an inferno of fire, under the hateful eye of the one they called their God. Left to ashes, the once lively town now hosts nothing but the ghosts of the past. Under the remains of the prestigious academy’s dorms, sit the remnants of a certain scholar’s life, now remembered only as the hero she never chose to be.
