Yeji had been slated to debut as a soloist first, but was then passed over after longer complications with her injury. Ryujin got the better song, but in a stroke of random luck Yuna’s went so viral that it propelled her into stardom with the general public.

But it’s just Ryujin, stupid and tactless and boyish and decidedly un-Slytherin, and privately Chaeryeong likes being at the receiving end of this kind of easy ribbing, where a joke is a joke and not a scathing critique wrapped in twelve layers of small talk.

Across the table, Andrea was studying the condensation running down the side of her water glass, apparently oblivious to the fact that she had just made the last two decades considerably more confusing. People did not usually remember promotions, or cities someone had lived in, or the exact order in which those things had happened. They certainly didn’t recall them casually over lunch nearly twenty years later. At least, not unless they had been paying attention. Not unless, at some point, they had actively wanted to know.
And if Andrea had been paying attention all this time, then Emily suddenly found herself confronted with a question she had never once considered asking.

Faith raises her eyebrows, glancing over at Buffy. “As far as I know, you’re still together. As much as you ever were, anyway — I never really got all the details.”
Of all the things that have changed, this has stayed exactly as Faith remembers. Buffy doesn’t talk to Faith about her life. Especially not her boyfriends. Not any more than she absolutely has to.
“No, not me and Spike,” Buffy says, pushing off the railing and crossing the gap between them to sit down next to Faith. She’s so close Faith can smell that stupid, fruity body-spray she loves. Cherry blossoms. She’s so close Faith can’t help but feel a pang of regret about it, the way the ashtray smell of her bad habit is going to smother that nice, clean scent. “Me and you.”
