Their eyes met, and just for a moment, something like fear sparked in Bucciarati’s eyes. It was like he was afraid Abbacchio would say, "good," and turn around and walk away. He would’ve been an idiot if he thought Abbacchio would ever do anything of the sort.
“I didn’t say that I wasn’t going to help,” Abbacchio clarified, his voice coming out softer than he’d meant it to. “Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean I won’t help.”Or, when a teenager comes to Bucciarati, begging for him to help find the person who drugged his father, Abbacchio has to his reluctance to work the job to the side, if because he worries about the clear toll it’s taking on Bucciarati.
