Anyway, the point is, Wei Wuxian knows rain. It’s a natural, normal weather phenomenon. Normally he only pays it as much mind as he needs to--like, maybe he remembers to grab a hat if it looks stormy. (It’s more likely that he’ll forget the hat and then have to crowd under Lan Zhan’s umbrella, which neither of them is complaining about, mind you.) It’s just. You know. Rain. Sure, he and Lan Zhan may have had several dramatic, fraught, emotional confrontations with each other in the middle of horrible rainstorms, but that’s just coincidence! Sometimes it rains! Nothing to worry about!
It’s just that maybe they’re primed to expect a certain outcome from past experience, which might explain why, when lightning flashes and thunder cracks and the sky opens up over them a little ways outside the nearest village, he and Lan Zhan whip around to face each other in a sudden panic.

HOLY FUCK IS THAT A BABY?!
The howling anguish of the Burial Mounds goes silent. Wei Wuxian has returned, and he has brought other people with him, and one of those people is, indeed, a baby. The little caravan of weary living people (who have a fucking baby with them) works its way up what might generously be called a path, deeper into the cursed hills, and they have the full attention of many, many ghosts. Resentful energy burns away, boiling into nothing under the utter shock of the situation.
Who the fuck brings a baby to the Burial Mounds?
Or: People think Wei Wuxian somehow cleansed the resentment of the Burial Mounds for the Wen survivors, but actually, the ghosts did it as babyproofing.

Wei Wuxian hadn’t been lying the night he’d told Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji that he didn’t remember the days after the massacre at Nightless City, but his memory had always been awful, so he hadn't given much thought to just how many pieces of his memory were missing. Since his reincarnation, memories from his past life have been coming back to him bit by bit, and he doesn't seem to have much control over it--but if he did, he would have chosen to never remember what happened those days in that cave in Yiling.
