Mike’s hand falls from the door knob. Instinctively, he takes a step back, and he turns back around. The door closes gently behind him, and Mike stares at his boyfriend in surprise and in confusion. “What?”
“We’re supposed to be a team,” Will repeats, his voice trembling yet still a bit angry. His eyes are narrowed at Mike—defensive but still on guard, wounded but still ready to fight.
It’s familiar. Somehow, the two of them always end up like this.

Summary
On his first day of school Will was called to the Guidance Counselor's office and given a little yellow card. He was told that if he ever felt too overwhelmed, or anxious, or scared, he could show his teacher the card, and they’d let him leave the class for a few minutes, no questions asked.
Will could see the pity in his Guidance Counselor's eyes as he handed him the card. He could hear the condescending tone in his voice as he told him that if he ever needed anything, anything at all, all he had to do was ask.
Will had stared up at him, his face blank.
Yellow was the color of fear. It was the color cowardice, of terror, and every other synonym for the stupid word.
He looked down at the card, gripping it tightly in both his hands, crinkling the edges, promising himself that no matter what, he’d never, ever use that card.

Summary
Lenora was supposed to be a fresh start. It’s away from Hawkins, away from the Upside Down and the painful memories that hung around the place. Lenora’s somewhere new. But Jonathan is struggling to find his place in the world, El is grappling with the loss of her powers and her identity, and Will is facing the unknown without the help of the party.
To make matters worse, it seems the powers his sister so desperately misses might be a family trait.

Summary
They were beautiful, in a way, like sun-bleached bones or a photo of a forest fire, or your best friend smiling at you and then wider at someone else. The kind of beauty that makes you deeply unhappy to have noticed it.
After a second more of contemplation Will cracked open his window, gritting his teeth at the shock of cold air that rushed in through the gap, and tossed the petals out.
The Upside Down took away a part of Will, or maybe he it took a part of it. It blooms from his lungs, and he suffers.
