    “You did not judge my son for this.” Krolia smoothes out a few stray feathers and Lance stares at the way her hair frames her face, just like Keiths, even if his own is currently sweaty and plastered to his forehead instead of its usual fluffy mane. It hasn’t been a mullet in a while, Lance realizes.
    He could pull it back. Or braid it. Maybe they can use a few of the stray feathers and braid them in. It would look good on Keith.
    Pretty.
    He did not just think that. It looks dumb on him.
    Krolia just asked him something.
    “Because it didn’t change anything. It’s still Keith? I mean, imagine my surprise when Pidge said she’s a girl. And that didn't change anything, so why should Keith turning into a bird brain be any different? And… He always wanted to fly. Is it weird that I’m happy that he can do that now?”

    Keith pets her head, smile growing strained. "That's Krolia, Mizzi. She was with you before I got there, remember?"

    "Ooooh," Mizzi hums. "Your work friend, right?"

    The low chatter in the cockpit stutters to a halt, and Keith wonders if he's imagining that Krolia's grip tightens on the controls.

    Krolia doesn't know how to deal with kids, and Keith does. He really shouldn't be surprised by this fact, but he is.
