Peter Parker died.
He'd lived through a fatal spider bite, the transformation that came from that bite, a shit ton of bullet, knife, explosion etc wounds, a building falling down on him. He'd also lived through a war on another planet, getting quite literally dusted out of existence, and then coming back to fight yet another war. And more, he'd lived through a betrayal of someone he trusted with his life, and lived through death threats, bricks thrown at his windows, temporary homelessness, and villains coming from different dimensions with the sole intention to kill him.
He'd lived through it all.
Until one day, he didn't.

Peter Parker falls through a portal during a fight
And dies.

Summary
Peter wakes up in a morgue, scars down his chest, and feels terrible when he gives the poor mortician quite a fright. But unfortunately, this is not the worst of his problems. He now has to figure out how to survive in a new city, or rather, new world that is completely different from his own. For one: Tony Stark is here—alive. On top of that, he also has to navigate this all while being a full foot shorter!
Even worse, life gets a lot more difficult for Peter when there are a bunch of billionaires trying to gently kidnap him at every turn.
It started when Bruce Wayne caught Peter Parker trying to hack Tony Stark while mooching off Norman Osborn’s Wi-Fi. Naturally, things progressed.

A silhouette appeared at the end of the alley, thin and walking with an almost limp, or maybe just swaying. The man appeared to be giggling to himself, reaching up and touching his lips. As he got closer, Peter realized there seemed to be blood on his hands. He was wearing a stained and ripped purple suit, with garish clown makeup making him look a ghastly white. His yellow teeth were stained with blood, reflecting off the dim light as stumbled down the alleyway. He was getting closer, and Peter made a split second decision.

Of course it was. If he hadn't been so stupid, if he had listened to Tony instead of arguing with him, then he wouldn't have been in that situation. Trusting Beck. If he hadn't been so stubborn, he's sure Tony and Miss Potts would've sorted it out, hidden his identity away. But instead he acted irrationally, and now look at where that got him. After the world forgot him, Peter kept fighting. He was Spider-Man after all. But as the villains get worse and the heroes dwindle, Peter finally grows tired. Hasn't he done his time? He's never once shirked the responsibility forced upon him. Never once has he put himself first.
Eventually, the straw breaks the camel's back. Peter finally hangs up the cape.
