Summary
Slipstream (n.) - In motorsports, an aerodynamic advantage where a trailing car follows closely behind a leading car.
Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes have always rested in eachothers' slipstream.
(Or: what if, instead of superheroes, they were Formula One drivers?)

Summary
Liberty Formula One Team takes pride in its all-American theming, thank you very much. Drivers James “Bucky” Barnes and Steve Rogers have been friends for years, hailed as national golden boys. But unbeknownst to the world, Bucky has been in love with Steve for nineteen years. And he is one-hundred percent, without-a-doubt certain Steve is in a relationship with his race engineer, Natasha Romanoff.
This is a problem. This is also, as it turns out, a solution.
(or, five times bucky thinks his teammate is sleeping with his race engineer, and one time he realizes that's not true. there's a lot of lost time to make up for.)

Summary
“No, no, it’s good! Great, even! P13 is good, ‘specially in that shit car they’ve got you in,” Bucky reassures a heartbroken Steve.
Bucky has his champion hat behind his back, though it’s no use, since Steve saw the man on the podium with his own eyes, drowning himself in carbonated water (not champagne, they were only 17).
“Yeah,” Steve agrees, though he’s not really focused on the conversation at all. Bucky throws his arm around Steve’s shoulders, all friendly-like. There were a good five inches between them, but Steve felt like Bucky’s arm molded into him, a perfect fit.

Summary
Captain America and the Winter Soldier are a terrifying duo on the field, working together with a well-oiled precision that tears through their enemies. Captain Rogers and Agent Barnes are distant coworkers, all polite nods and mission briefings.
Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes are fire and gasoline; it never ends well.

Summary
Steve Rogers is a sad fucking man, but he’s a soldier down to his bones, and Bucky’s always been weak to that particular combination of tragic eyes and fistfuls of blood.
That’s why he’s plastered to the walls and incapable of looking away from Rogers’s heaving chest and cracked knuckles. He doesn’t speak a word, doesn’t even dare to breathe loudly until a vicious punch from Rogers sends the poor bag flying across the room, spitting sand everywhere. There’s no startled sound from Rogers. He doesn’t even freeze, just huffs like he’s inconvenienced by his inanimate victim’s inability to withstand the pounding.
Bucky bites his tongue so he doesn’t offer himself as a replacement.

Summary
It's just an innocuous comment, that's how it starts.
He's not even sure why he says it; it's too much, entirely, pushing things too far, but— “It's not—one and done, you know? I got, uh. Stamina.”
“Stamina,” Bucky repeats, flat. “Uh huh.” And then he's throwing back the rest of his drink, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, turning to Steve and squaring his jaw all challenge. “How many times?”
“How—”
“Yeah. How many times. In one go.”
“I—” Steve starts, flushing so hot he feels like he must be a beacon in the bar, shining through the grey-out. Bucky's still looking at him, curious, and something else under it, something Steve can't place. “Four,” he says, compulsively too-honest in the face of Bucky’s gaze, and Bucky's eyes widen.

Summary
It cut Bucky to the core and he hated that more than anything. That as much as he could let Steve down, as he could get things wrong, he was still Bucky Barnes enough to care so very much about Steve Rogers.
“Steve,” Bucky said with a tired sigh, “please not tonight. I can’t do it tonight.”
“Can’t do what?” Steve asked.
“I can’t pretend tonight. I can’t be someone I don’t remember how to be, not tonight. Try me again tomorrow. I’ll muster it up, I swear. But tonight, I am so tired, pal.”
