Summary
It's easy to make idols out of parents. Humans are one of the few animals reliant on caregivers well past infancy. Mothers in particular seem to maintain a special sort of infallibility in the eyes of their children. This illusion of grandeur often persists well into adolescence even as an individual begins to develop an identity and attachments outside of their immediate family. Remus understood all this. But he still couldn't understand how Sirius managed to love his mother.
