A wandering gust whips a piece of his hair loose, dragging it across the bridge of his nose; he lets it tickle. “Don't get smug,” he murmurs. He stares out at the water for a long minute, holding the plastic bottle on his thigh. Then he adds, "But yeah. I guess it is. Pretty cool.”Or, when Ruki volunteers to lend his senses to a stranger with locked-in syndrome, he expects a weekly two-hour paid escape from work. He does not expect to fall for a man who can't move, speak, or see the world without being tethered to him.
